Ozlem Ayduk et al., 2013 carried out a study to see if the language we use to refer to the self during introspection influences how we think, feel, and behave under social stress. They wanted to know if using non-first-person pronouns and one's own name (rather than first-person pronouns) during rumination enhances self-distancing to help self-regulate.
